Web Design Philosophy

The One Stop Web Shop’s design philosophy is summed up in just three words: Bugger the rules.
Practical Web Design for Business Websites

Web Design that Works

I believe in an old rule of thumb from direct marketing that guides my web design philosophy today.
Back in the day, direct marketers found that “clean,” stylish ad layouts underperformed busy designs. This flew in the face of pretentious design houses and marketing experts. But in the world of direct marketing, it didn’t matter. The results spoke for themselves.
My bespoke website design focuses on what works for you, rather than the latest fads from prestigious schools of design.

My Web Design Philosophy

Bugger the Rules

When I set out to redesign this website, I deliberately eschewed clean and simple design and went for “dirty and complex” instead. The web design philosophy of this website is decidedly non-standard.

I threw colour theory out the window and stuffed in too many hues. I packed the design with gnarly elements designed to draw the eye this way and that. I wanted...

  • Colours that pop!
  • Bold patches of light and dark
  • Hidden surprises waiting to be discovered
  • Inverted negative space

But most of all, I wanted to thumb my nose at the arbiters of “good design.”

The website you’re looking at now benefits from its busy layout. It isn’t “clean” like the sterile website of a popular mobile phone vendor. I pack a lot into every page because I expect my pages to earn their keep.

Nevertheless, I can and do produce “clean” designs if that’s what my client wants. Or, I can produce something truly unique that nobody else has. I’m no prima donna. I work for you.

My web design philosophy is to find out what works for your business and implement it.

What about practical considerations?

I create all-inclusive, bespoke, and e-commerce websites with user experience (UX) and visitor conversion in mind. When artistic requirements conflict with usability and conversion, I forgo art.

Like Your Existing Design Theme?

I work with themed websites frequently. If you like your existing theme and are looking for a refresh rather than a redesign, then that’s what I’ll do.

After all, I work for you. My goal is to produce a business website that delivers the things you expect from it, whether it be...

  • A brochure website
  • An online store (e-commerce)
  • An interactive design extravaganza

When you work with me, you’re the boss. If my web design philosophy sounds good to you, get in touch and let’s chat.
